Team South Africa competed in judo, beach volleyball and football at the 2019 African Games in Rabat, Morocco on Saturday.

Michaela Whitebooi won a silver medal in the Women’s under-48kg weight division losing to Chaimae Eddinari of Cameroon in the final. Whitebooi had seen off the challenged of Lucky Mabaka of Botswana and Hadjer Mecerrem of Algeria.
Jasmine Martin narrowly missed out on earning a Bronze medal for South Africa in Judo. Martin lost the Bronze medal match in the under 63 kg women’s category to Sofia Belattar of Morocco. Defeat to Steven Mungandu of Zambia in the repechage round denied Siya Mabulu a shot at a Bronze in the men’s under 66kg weight division.
Unelle Snyman added another silver medal to her growing medals collection after going down narrowly in the women’s -78kg division judo final at the African Games in Rabat on Sunday

Beach Volleyball
Left-handed duo Grant Goldschmidt and Leo Williams surged into the quartefinals of the Beach Volleyball tournament, following up from their opening day upset of a Ghanain pairing. They saw off Muzamil Ateya and Nagi Osman of Sudan relatively easily and achieved the same against Ishmail Bangura and John Sorie Kamara of Sierra Leone.
Men’s doubles, Group D: Grant Goldschmidt and Leo Williams beat Muzamil Ateya and Nagi Osman (Sudan) 21-11 21-7. They followed up by beating Ishmail Bangura and John Sorie Kamara (Sierra Leone) 21-16 21-7 to top Group D and advance to the quarter-finals
Football
South Africa’s Under-20 Women’s side went down 3-0 to Nigeria in the opening game of the 2019 African Games campaign. First-half goals from Gift Monday and Zainah Olapade alongside second-half strike from substitute Cynthia Aku gave Christopher Danjuma’s ladies a winning start at the Stade des Chenes.
