Khoza didn’t understand Lorch’s decision to dump Pirates

Orlando Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza didn’t understand the decision and why Thembinkosi Lorch would want to dump the Soweto giants as he joined Mamelodi Sundowns.

According to a football publication, Lorch’s request to dump Pirates and join Sundowns was not understood by Khoza as he looked for a fresh start.

Phakaaathi reports that the ex-Pirates winger, Lorch pleaded with club chairman Khoza to let him leave the club for greener pastures at Sundowns.

KHOZA DIDN’T UNDERSTAND LORCH’S DECISION TO DUMP PIRATES

A source close to the publication has it that Lorch had several meetings with the club’s boss, Khoza regarding his move to the Brazilians but the chairman didn’t understand his decision to leave Pirates.

It is also mentioned that the Iron Duke, Khoza was reluctant to let Lorch go as he is one of the more experienced players at Pirates under coach Jose Riveiro.

Lorch is said to have approached Pirates boss, Khoza for his blessings to leave the Soweto giants, but the Buccaneers boss didn’t understand why he wanted to leave after being at the club for a long time.

“We all know that Lorch’s signing was done behind closed doors,” said the insider.

“Lorch has been wanting to leave the club for some time. It’s just that the management were not keen to let him go, but it’s football, things happen.

“At first, Khoza was not happy with the idea of Lorch leaving, he was very upset. He didn’t really understand why someone like him would want to let everything go and start afresh.”

PIRATES BOSS DIDN’T WANT TO STAND ON LORCH’S WAY TO SUNDOWNS

While it was not easy to understand Lorch’s decision to leave Pirates, Khoza also didn’t want to stand in the Bafana Bafana star’s way.

This comes as news filtered on Friday that Sundowns have tabled an offer for Lorch who was unveiled by the reigning DStv Premiership champions on Saturday morning.

“But, if there is one thing about the boss (Khoza) it’s that he won’t stand in your way if you feel like you no longer want to be part of the club,” added the source.

“I think that’s why their meeting took so long. He didn’t understand why Lorch would want to go, but the player’s mind was already made up, and that is why he let him go.”
