Masters 2023: Nine surprising players to miss the cut

1. Rory McIlroy

What he shot: 72-77 (+5)

He went from co-favourite to the couch. Next year it will be his 10th time trying to win the Green Jacket … will he ever win the Grand Slam? At this point, you’d have to say no.

2. Justin Thomas

What he shot: 70-78 (+4)

The 2022 PGA Championship winner will forever be involved in the storylines of the 2023 Masters. His bogey at 17 allowed Tiger Woods to make the cut. A second bogey in a row meant he’d be sitting out the weekend.

He played his final eight in six over.

3. Corey Conners

What he shot: 73-79 (+8)

Last week’s winner ejected at the halfway mark.

4. Bryson DeChambeau

What he shot: 74-74 (+4)

He once famously said the par 5s at Augusta were so easy the course plays as a par 67. That makes him well, well over par.

5. Tom Hoge

What he shot: 74-74 (+4)

The Par 3 curse continues…

6. Kurt Kitayama

What he shot: 75-77 (+8)

An early exit for the world No 20 and the holder of the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Who saw this wild performance coming?

7. Min Woo Lee

What he shot: 75-75 (+6)

An in-form player who has taken major strides in his game. He finished T14 at Augusta last year to start this week with big expectations.

8. Sergio Garcia

What he shot: 74-77 (+7)

The 2017 Masters champion actually only made the cut for the first time since his dramatic win in 2022.  He had the weekend off for three-straight years (he missed the 2020 Masters with COVID) from 2018 to 2021.

Another year that has seen Louis end his Masters run early with a withdrawal. This is likely his last ever appearance at The Masters.
