Phil Mickelson and Brooks Koepka were the standout LIV Golf players at the Masters as they shared second place at Augusta National.

It was always going to be interesting to see how the 18 LIV Golf players would go in the first Major of the year. And to most, they outperformed the expectations.

Now only playing three-round tournaments, the LIV Golf crew did well with all the attention on them.

LIV Golf nearly got their first Major

It was nearly a fantastic Easter weekend as Brooks Koepka tried to hold off Jon Rahm in the final round. But the big-hitting American, who has four Majors to his name, failed to convert a birdie try at the second hole. The momentum shifted and in the end, Rahm cruised home.

In front of them, Phil Mickelson turned back the clock with a closing 65.

Mickelson charged up the leaderboard on Sunday with the round-of-the-day, firing seven birdies over his final 13 holes to post his best worldwide finish since winning the PGA Championship in 2021.

He was joined in the top six by Patrick Reed, a former winner of the Masters. Chile’s Joaquin Niemann was down in T16 and Harold Varner III snuck inside the top 30.

American Talor Gooch and runner up last year Cameron Smith ended in T34.

Mito Pereira was one of the most recent players to switch to LIV Golf and he shared 43rd place.

Dustin Johnson had a slow week and ended in T48 which was two places above South Africa’s Charl Schwartzel. He did though keep a good streak alive in that a South African has made the cut every year since 1986.

Rahm claimed his second major title earning himself a green jacket and a $3.24 million for his four-shot victory.

Mickelson and Koepka each took home $1.58 million.

This year’s event set a pair of records in regard to prize money, with an $18 million purse, up from $15 million in 2022 and $11.5 million in 2021.

Rahm’s payday was significantly more than the $2.7 million that Scottie Scheffler earned last year for winning.
