The pair, who currently play their golf on the LIV Golf tour, secured their places at Royal Cinque Ports in qualifying on Tuesday.

It will be Grace’s first Major of the year and the second for Schwartzel who played in April’s Masters at Augusta National as a previous winner of that tournament.

“I was always going to try and qualify for this one. When you have the chance to qualify for one of the best tournaments in the world you are going to jump on a plane and you are always going to do it,” said Grace.

“It was worth the trip. I played really well and I’m happy with how things panned out.”

At the time of publishing on Wednesday, 5 July, a total of 10 South Africans have qualified for the 2023 Open.
