EXCL: “I doubt Serero will join Chiefs anytime soon”

A reliable source close to midfielder Thulani Serero has doubts he will join Kaizer Chiefs anytime soon despite being a free agent.

Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Thulani Serero might be a free agent but one source close to his dealings has doubts if he will join Kaizer Chiefs soon.

Exclusively speaking to The South African, a highly ranked and respected football intermediate believes Serero might be enticed to continue playing his football abroad.

Various media reports suggest that the Soweto-born Serero could be heading to Naturena as he looks to make his return to Mzansi to join Chiefs.

SERERO’S CLOSE ASSOCIATE DOUBTS HE WILL JOIN CHIEFS

According to the source who asked to remain anonymous, said anything can happen in football but he really doubts that the former Ajax Amsterdam star will play for Chiefs anytime soon.

Serero recently parted ways with United Arab Emirates side, Al Jazira and he is currently looking for a new football home.

However, the informant known to The South African, shared his thoughts on the possibility of seeing the fan favourite in the DStv Premiership.

“No, I didn’t know that Chiefs want Thulani and he hasn’t shared anything with me as yet. However, I doubt he will join Chiefs,” the source tells The South African.

“You know anything can happen in football, but I don’t see it happening at the moment. To be honest, we know Amakhosi like to sign free agents and with respect to them, I doubt they will sign him.

“Serero loves playing his football overseas and I don’t think he will return anytime soon. We do talk but I don’t advise players to sign for this and that.

“I prefer they use their intuition because I can say go to Chiefs and what if they fail? Personally, I don’t see him going to Chiefs.”

MOSIMANE REACTS TO SIGNING SERERO RUMOURS

After taking over as the new Al Wahda coach last month, former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane was also linked with Serero’s signature.

In his response, the ex-Al Ahli Saudi mentor didn’t mince his words and said he is not signing the talented creative midfielder.

“No, I’m not signing Serero now, not yet, I haven’t sat with the people on the table. I signed a contract [last Saturday] night,” he said.

“How could I talk about a team where I haven’t signed a contract [yet]? I had to be professional, and I also had to wait for the team to announce before I say anything, I can’t jump the gun.”
