Dubbing Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge the greatest ever marathon runner is by no means a stretch of the imagination, given how he’s dominated the circuit in recent years.

And, just to hammer home the point, he took the 2019 London Marathon title becoming the first ever male athlete to win the even four times. He obliterated the course record in the process.

The 34-year-old has gone over half a decade without losing a major race he’s competed in, and has crossed the finish line at impressive times more often than not.

His last defeat came when he finished second in the 2013 Berlin Marathon, losing to countryman Wilson Kipsang, who recorded what was then a world record 2:03:23.

Since then it’s been one-way traffic, sKipchoge’s career has been about constantly pushing himself and pretty much competing against the clock.

The Kenyan has, on several occasions, come close to becoming the first man to dip under two hours in a world marathon major.

He holds the world record for the time recorded in the 2018 Berlin Marathon, the last major he competed in before the 2019 London Marathon.

This makes Kipchonge the fifth Kenyan to hold the world marathon record in the last 30 years, following in the footsteps of the likes of the great Paul Tergat, Kipsang and Dennis Kimetto.

The British capital is also where he holds the course record, after cruising in at 2:03:03, his second fastest time.
