Trail runs added to MTB jaunt in Scottburgh

The anchor MTB races were supplemented with a trio of trail runs using the same network of trails, starting and finishing at the Scottburgh main beach and traversing the neighbouring Sappi plantations and sugar cane fields.

The trail runs will offer a choice of 20 km for the elite racers, with options of 12 km and 5 km for more recreational runners on Saturday 30 July, while the familiar MTB courses will offer 45km for the serious mountain bikers and an accessible 20km option for the everyday riders.

The weekend of running and mountain biking will continue its relationship with Cycling4Mobility, with proceeds from the weekend going towards wheelchairs for deserving recipients.

The trail-building team has been hard at work on the network of trails and roads used for the various races and are close to completing their routine maintenance to get them race-ready for the last weekend of July.

Gravel bike racing: Underberg Gran Fondo is unveiled

With both events forming the fourth leg of the Quattro ROAG Series powered by Momentum, the entry list will contain most of the aspirant elite runners and riders in the province.

The traditionally well-supported event is making a return to its full scale of activity and is now being managed by Ward Events. Many families use the choice of events as an opportunity to enjoy a long weekend on the South Coast and the Premier Resort Cutty Sark hotel offers ideally situated accommodation for the weekend of sporting activity.
