The cricket world was rocked to its core on Friday by confirmation Australian spin wizard Shane Warne was found dead in his villa in Thailand.

He was 52.

1. Shane Keith Warne was born on 13 September 1969 in Victoria, Australia

2. He made his Test debut against India in the 1992 New Year’s Test in Sydney

3. Warne played his 145th and final Test exactly 15 years later against England in the New Year’s Test, again in Sydney

4. He took 708 Test wickets – the second-most ever behind Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan (800)

5. Shane Warne also played 194 ODIs for Australia, taking 293 wickets

6. His 3 154 Test runs is the most ever by a player not to have scored a century. His highest score was 99.

7. Warne bowled the ‘Ball of the Century’ arguably the greatest delivery ever in Test cricket when he flummoxed Mike Gatting, bowling the England star in 1993.

9. Shane Warne had three children with former wife Simone Callahan to whom he was married between 1995 and 2005.

10. He died in his villa in Koh Samui, Thailand on Friday, 4 March 2022 due to a suspected heart attack. His death came on the same day as that of fellow Australian icon Rod Marsh, whom Warne paid tribute to in a tweet a few hours prior to his own death.
