The dangerous Virat Kohli was sent packing early in his innings, thanks to an outrageous catch by Quinton de Kock in the Cricket World Cup clash between South Africa and India.

Quinton de Kock produced a moment of magic to remove dangerous India captain Virat Kohli as South Africa sought to defend a low total in their third match in the Cricket World Cup.

In their bid for a first victory in the tournament, the Proteas batted first after captain Faf du Plessis won the toss, but managed to post a paltry 227/8 in their 50 overs.

This meant that a solid effort in the field was required in order to stand any chance of upsetting a formidable Indian batting line-up, headed by their skipper who walked in to bat earlier than he would have liked after Shikar Dhawan was sent packing in the sixth over.

With one wicket down, Dhawan’s opening partner Rohit Sharma was building a threatening partnership with Kohli, who was rather uncharacteristically plodding along at a strike rate of just over 50 for his 18 runs.

It was until Andile Phehlukwayo, who has been one of a few shining lights for the Proteas in the tournament, proved once more to have a golden arm, getting Kohli to nick off behind to Quinton de Kock, who pulled off a sublime diving catch.

The wicketkeeper-batsman dived to his right and was so outstretched, Hashim Amla at first slip would have had a more straightforward catch to deal with had he gotten to it first.

This had South Africa in within a decent shot as India were in a tricky position at 54/2 with their talisman back in the hut.
