The Proteas men’s team will not have any international engagements until May when they visit the Caribbean to face the West Indies.

According to the International Cricket Council (ICC) Future Tours Program the Proteas will not play any matches in March or April.

The March and April period is largely devoid of international cricket as it has been earmarked as the IPL window but South Africa has several top players on show in the IPL and the tournament will be watched closely in a World Cup year.

Proteas to face West Indies in T20 World Cup warm-up

The Proteas have secured a three-match Twenty20 International series against the West Indies.

However, this short series will act as significant preparation for the T20 World Cup.

These matches will also answer several critical selection questions.

After star turns in the SA20 we could see expanded roles for the likes of Ryan Rickleton and Matthew Breetzke at the top of the order.

Exciting young talent Kwena Maphaka is also in line for a run out.

The tour will be short but could still be very impactful. The Proteas reached the semi-finals of the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Another T20 World Cup

The Proteas were drawn against Netherlands, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal in group D of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

All the focus is on this tournament. However there is little action on the international stage.

The tournament will take place in the West Indies and USA.

At the 2024 tournament, the Proteas will open their campaign against Sri Lanka in New York on 3 June.

The Proteas will stay at the same venue in the Big Apple for their next two fixtures against the Dutch on 8 June and Bangladesh on 10 June.

The South Africans will then jet off to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines ahead of taking on Nepal on 14 June.

Only the top two teams in each of the four groups will qualify for the Super 8s which precede the knockout stages.

The Proteas will travel to Ireland for three T20Is and three ODIs in July before a return to the West Indies in August.

A two-match Test tour of Bangladesh follows in October before a home summer that will see the Proteas welcome Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
