The Netherlands sent the Proteas crashing out of the T20 World Cup on Sunday with a stunning 13-run victory in Adelaide.

Just a few days ago, South Africa were positioned as the only unbeaten team at the tournament and looked assured of qualifying for the semi-finals.

Instead, disappointing defeats to Pakistan and the Netherlands saw them implode, while the team was also haunted by the rained out game against Zimbabwe that denied them an extra log point.

Understandably, Twitter went into meltdown on Sunday as many fans woke up to the shock news after the Proteas defeat.

After this result, Mark Boucher will eventually end his tenure as Proteas coach on a truly disappointing note.

Former Proteas all-rounder Lance Klusener is next expected to be named as South Africa’s new interim One-Day International (ODI) coach. Unnamed sources confirmed the news to The South African website on Friday, 4 November.

The vacancy as Proteas ODI coach follows as a result of Mark Boucher’s decision in September to quit as national coach following the completion of the ongoing T20 World Cup.

Boucher was named as the new Mumbai Indians Indian Premier League (IPL) coach shortly after his announcement to step down from the South Africa job.
