Chasing 370 for victory, the Proteas were at one stage on track to pull off an unlikely victory at 241/3, but lost their last seven wickets for only 33 runs to crash to a 2-0 series defeat – their first in 17 years against Pakistan.

Following their loss, South African slipped to sixth place in the updated ICC rankings (there are only nine countries in the world that actually play Test cricket).

Pakistan meanwhile moved up two places to fifth.
