Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad believes that Fakhar Zaman has nobody but himself to blame for the loss of his wicket in the second ODI against South Africa.

Fakhar was run out attempting to retain the strike with Pakistan needing an improbable 31 runs to win in the final over of the second match of the series.

The Pakistan opener had batted brilliantly for his 193 and the run out had the air of misfortune as an incredible throw from the outfield by Aiden Markram clattered into the stumps.

Miandad believes that Fakhar was guilty of not cherishing his wicket in this instance and feels that the left-hander should have made his ground.

Eyes on the ball

“You can’t get the eyes off the ball,” Miandad told PPI

“You must love your wicket and runs like a man loves a woman. When you do that, you can’t get run out like this,” he added.

Miandad applauded the awareness of De Kock and believes that such plays are a part of the game and should not be outlawed.

“We also used to do that. I used to pretend that I am throwing the ball to the bowler’s end but would through towards wicket-keeper to get the opponent run out. That must be considered smart,” he said.

Fakhar absolves Proteas keeper

Fakhar doesn’t feel hard done by and blames himself for the run out as he was paying more attention to the non-striker.

The fault was mine as I was too busy looking out for Haris Rauf at the other end as I felt he’d started off a little late from his crease, so I thought he was in trouble. The rest is up to the match referee, but I don’t think it’s Quinton’s fault,” Zaman said as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo.
