Former SA cricket captain Graeme Smith on Monday said he has not been appointed Director of Cricket by Cricket SA.
Reports have suggested that the ex-opening batsman was set to be announced as the first permanent appointment in the position, which is currently vacant following the suspension of Corrie van Zyl, who had filled the post on an interim basis.
He took to social media to dispel the rumours, but did admit that he was in talks with CSA.
“Contrary to media reports I have not been appointed Director of Cricket by CSA,” Tweeted Smith.
“As previously advised I withdrew my application for the role. I am, however, in ongoing discussions with CSA, but I still have real concerns, which I have reiterated to them.”

The Sunday Times on Sunday reported Smith’s appointment could be confirmed “in the coming weeks”.
The position of Director of Cricket was introduced after the recent world cup, as CSA made an overhaul of its coaching structures.
With the Mzansi Super League currently in full swing and ending on December 16, there will be just 10 days for selectors to decide on the SA team for the first Test against England.
There will be just a two-day Tour match in Benoni starting on December 17 against an SA invitational side, a three-day Tour match also at the same venue against SA A, and one round of the domestic four-day series starting on December 19 for the SA players to find form in the longest format of the game.
Meanwhile CSA have revealed that Enoch Nkwe will continue as interim team director for the England tour.
