The Proteas have been sent in to bat against the West Indies after Jason Holder won the toss ahead of their Cricket World Cup clash at the Ageas Bowl on Monday.

South Africa are desperate to get off the mark in their campaign, which has so far yielded three defeats in as many matches to place them ninth in the standings with minnows Afghanistan the only team below them.

They go into the game without fast bowler Lungi Ngidi, who is yet to regain full fitness after pulling out of the Bangladesh defeat with a hamstring strain.

Two changes have been made to the side that lost to India, with left-arm seamer Beuran Hendricks – who was flown in as replacement to the injured Dale Steyn – coming in in place of wrist spinner Tabraiz Shamsi, while Aiden Markram replaces JP Duminy in the middle order.

For the West Indies, they will have to do without a big player in Andre Russell, who did not recover in time for the clash, and has been replaced by Kemar Roach, with opener Evin Lewis also not fit to start – Darren Bravo comes in his place.
