Walter explains Sisanda Magala’s situation

Sisanda Magala was seen playing for the Lions this week and many cricket fans are asking if he is really injured.

Proteas medium pace bowler Sisanda Magala surprised many cricket fans when he was seen playing for his the Lions despite being ruled of the ICC Cricket World Cup.

The 32-year-old was originally in the 15-men squad ahead of the tournament but had to be replaced due to an injury last week. This week however, Magala was seen playing franchise cricket and many are asking of he was dropped for the team for another reason either than injury or fitness.

“The decision on Sisanda was an incrediby difficult one. I think first and foremost, every squad that I’ve picked since I became head coach, has had him in it because I do value him as a performer for this team, but unfortunately throughout the Aussie series, we just couldn’t get him on the park. Everyone was working hard to make that happen but it just didn’t happen,” he was quoted on SA Cricket Magazine.

Magala played in one of the five ODI matches against Australia but had to leave the field after only bowling a couple of overs.

“As you’d have read the regulations,for the World Cup, they are very different from those of the Lions,” Walter explains why he was featuring for his franchise team.

He said the team couldn’t risk taking Magala to the World Cup as he was already carrying an injury before the team departed to India.
