Proteas likely to reach the semis this weekend after win against NZ

Rassie van der Dussen made an impressive 133 and together with Quinton de Kock(114) steered the Proteas to 357-4 after the 50 overs.

Proteas cruised to a 190-run win over New Zealand in their seventh match of the Cricket World Cup on Wednesday.

Temba Bavuma’s men are all but through to the semi-final and will just have to win at least one of their last two matches to secure top-four spots.

Rassie van der Dussen made an impressive 133 and together with Quinton de Kock(114) steered the Proteas to 357-4 after the 50 overs.

In reply, New Zealand only managed to reach 167 before they were bowled all out.

After the mathc, Rasie gave gave credit to Black Caps bowlers.

“We felt they bowled pretty well upfront,” van der Dussen said at the post-match press conference.

“Tim Southee and Trent Boult are very experienced and they didn’t give us much and then with their finger spinners, Santner is a guy who has some of the best control in the world.

The other two (Phillips and Ravindra), we knew we could put under pressure but also that they have been bowling well in the tournament so far. We had to fight through that period. But we know we don’t always have to be in fifth gear. We can play in third gear and then at the end up it a little bit.”

The Proteas next face India for top spot this Sunday in Kolkata.
