Despite their 38 runs defeat to the Netherlands, Proteas captain Temba Bavuma says the team will bounce back.

A poor bowling performance saw South Africa give away 32 extras to see the Dutch post a commanding score of 245 in 43 overs.

Netherlands captain Scott Evans scored an unbeaten 78 while SA-born all-rounder Roelof van der Merwe smashed a quick-fire 29 to give the Orange Army a good total on the board.

Bavuma says the defeat will hurt for the Proteas

In reply, Proteas only posted 207 in what was their worst showing at this year’s Cricket World Cup.

After winning their first two matches convincingly, many thought Bavuma’s men could content for the title alongside India and New Zealand.

“You got to let the emotion kind of seep in,” Bavuma said at the post-match presentation.

“Don’t think there is any point in trying to forget what’s happened. It is going to hurt, it should hurt.”

“But then you come back tomorrow, you wake up and we get back onto the journey. Our campaign is not over by any stretch of the imagination, but you got to feel the emotion of today and come back tomorrow with the head held up,” Bavuma added.
