Former Proteas coach Corrie van Zyl has been re-instated as a Cricket South Africa (CSA) employee.

The ex-South Africa One Day International (ODI) bowler had been acting as interim director of cricket for CSA before an untimely suspension before the start of the home summer.

Corrie van Zyl returns as CSA employee

He was suspended along with chief operating officer Naasei Appiah and commercial manager Clive Eksteen following alleged non-payment of player fees.

According to CSA, these were stemming from an agreement entered into ahead of the inaugural Mzansi Super League season in 2018.

However, the organisation has revealed on Tuesday that the matter has since been resolved, with van Zyls new soon to be announced.

“The matter between Cricket South Africa (CSA) and Mr Corrie van Zyl has now been concluded and Mr Van Zyl will be returning to work at CSA, effective immediately,” the statement read.

“While the details of the case remain confidential between the employee and employer, both parties are pleased that the case has now been concluded. By mutual agreement, CSA will in due course announce Mr Van Zyl’s role in the organisation as part of the current re-alignment processes.

“As part of the renewal efforts currently taking place in the organisation, CSA looks forward to the resolution of all such outstanding matters.”

How Corrie van Zyl and co found themselves in the wilderness

Ahead of the home summer, which began with a Test series against a touring England side, CSA appointed former Proteas skipper Graeme Smith as acting director of cricket.

This came during a tumultuous period in South African cricket, where long-time CEO Thabang Moroe was suspended after allegations of misconduct.

Van Zyl was suspended after it was alleged that CSA owed the South African Professional Cricketers Trust R2.5 million, which dated back to before the launch of the 2018 season of the Mzansi Super League.

During the time, the organisation vowed that any such indiscretions would be dealt with accordingly.

“While CSA regrets this unfortunate situation, as an organisation that promotes good governance and excellence in performance, we are pleased to report that, once uncovered, CSA successfully and quickly addressed this situation with SACA. In this regard an agreement was wherein all fees due to players will be transferred to SACA with immediate effect and through this mutual agreement, CSA and SACA have averted all potential interruptions to the game of cricket.”
