It’s time to get back in the stands. And back in the grounds. We’ve seen it over the last few weeks with Bafana Bafana and the soccer. Now, it’s cricket’s time. Cricket South Africa has revealed that fans will be able to attend cricket matches from Tuesday. Just in time for the sporting festive season shenanigans right?

T20 Knockout: Cricket fans allowed into the grounds

Fans will get the opportunity to buy tickets from Monday, for any of the quarterfinals of the T20 knockout. Those get underway from Tuesday.

Each venue will be able to host no more than 2 000 fans. Still very limited! But it’s a wonderful start. Seating will be unreserved to allow for social distancing. And most importantly, everyone will have to be fully vaccinated.

“Access control will follow the normal protocols, with the ticket and accreditation cards being strictly monitored to provide a detailed log of all access to the stadium. All tickets will be unreserved to allow spectators the ability to social distance and patrons will need to scan their own tickets once they arrive at the turnstiles. The stadia will create an ‘Outer Ring’, prior to the turnstiles where security will validate that every patron gaining access to the precinct is fully vaccinated.”

CSA said in a statement

In order to prove you’re fully vaccinated, you’ll have to present your vaccine card. It can be the original card, or your digital vaccine certificate.

Cricket fans: The path to normality?

CSA says it’s delighted that fans are now coming back to stadiums. The association says cricket is in a good space and there is lots of behind-the-scenes work underway, to make sure that fans have a great first experience back. Tickets will be selling for cheap too. Just R50 a pop.

“Due to limited capacity still and to minimise any disappointments we encourage cricket fans and sports followers to quickly get their tickets as soon as sales open. We also take this opportunity to remind and encourage all sports lovers to ensure that they are fully vaccinated in order to improve the health situation in the country and to hopefully reduce the COVID numbers, as this will eventually see a growth in the number of fans in the stands.”
