Chippa United v Kaizer Chiefs: Preview, head to head, kick off and live stream

A potential upset on the cards.

Kaizer Chiefs’ next assignment in the Telkom Knockout takes place all the way in Port Elizabeth where they will meet Chippa United at Nelson Mandela Bay on Sunday. This after their pretty straightforward 3-0 win in their first round clash against AmaZulu.

Steve Komphela’s men will be wary of the unpredictable ‘Chilli Boys’, who provided one of the early upsets in this competition as they accounted for Mamelodi Sundowns’ scalp.

Form guide

Kaizer Chiefs’ form this season has taken a bit of a weird pattern; each impressive win that would otherwise suggest they have turned a corner is always, without fail, followed by either a loss or a disappointing draw. If that is anything to go by, they should fancy a win here as they only drew with Polokwane City in their midweek league encounter.

Chippa on the other hand, have been quite consistent in avoiding defeat in recent weeks, having gone two months without a loss. They have won their last three games and should come into this one booming with confidence.

Confident is how Chiefs like’em though. Ask Cape Town City, Maritzburg United and AmaZulu, who were all brought down to earth after enjoying unbeaten runs by the (once) mighty Amakhosi.

Head to head

History between these two sides is pretty recent, with just eight encounters so far between them.

Kaizer Chiefs recently put an end to what was threatening to be a bit of a streak by the home team, who had put them to the sword twice in a row by winning 2-0 and 3-1. By winning that late season clash, Komphela’s men made it five wins against the Chilli Boys, who only have those two wins against the Soweto giants.
