Cameron van der Burgh finishes London Marathon in fast time

Cameron van der Burgh proved he’s almost as fast outside of the swimming pool as he was in it at Sunday’s London Marathon.

Cameron van der Burgh proved he’s almost as fast outside of the swimming pool as he was in it at Sunday’s London Marathon.

Van der Burgh, who will turn 36 next month, went from ‘zero’ to a marathon runner in the space of 16 weeks, according to an Instagram post.

The South African star Olympian crossed the line a very respectable 3:35:31.

Cameron van der Burgh broke 16 world records

Van der Burgh memorably won the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics in the men’s 100m breaststroke.

He went on to win the silver medal in the same event at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

He also won four golds, two silvers and three bronze medals at three different Commonwealth Games.

Van der Burgh, in total, set 16 world records during his career.

He is also a Laureus ambassador.

Meanwhile, reigning Olympic champion Peres Jepchirchir of Kenya won a competitive women’s race and set a new women’s-only world record in the process of 2:16:16.

The men’s race was won by another Kenyan, Alexander Mutiso Munyao, in 2:04.01.
