The women’s BSA Nationals 2023 concluded on Sunday and it was one to remember for everyone who was in attendance.

Bowlers from around the country spent much of the week attempting to play their way into Sunday’s finals but precious few succeeded. It was a marvellous advertisement for the game as young and old triumphed as they left Tshwane as National title holders.

The annual event decides the champion bowlers in three disciplines: singles, pairs and fours.

BSA Nationals 2023 Fours

The winners proved that it’s certainly not a game for the old as Proteas ace Jacqui Janse van Rensburg skipped her young side to the title. Janse van Rensburg has been on national duty recently and was certainly at the top of her game. But it’s always a team sport and her teammates Emma Murphy, Fran Baleri and Shannon Davies have bright futures at the highest level.

Janse van Rensburg’s team romped home in the final beating Michele Schliesser’s side 20-9. Such was the dominance of the eventual champions was that no side got to 10 shots in the knockouts.

BSA Nationals 2023 Pairs

Janse van Rensburg and Baleri nearly made it two massive title wins but they were eliminated in the semi-finals. It was a one-side last four encounter as Heather Pembroke and seasoned campaigner Esme Haley cruised to a 22-7.

The experienced pair were clearly in the mood for gold as they won the final against Taz Bright and Colleen Marshall in a similarly convincing fashion.

Ultimately Pembroke and Haley won the national pairs title 20-7.

BSA Nationals 2023 Singles – Open

Young local star Baleri was again at the fore but failed to advance to the final. Baleri lost to Charlotte Rossouw 21-17. Rossouw smashed her way to the title when she beat recent BSA Masters veteran champion Sue Tarr 21-9 in the gold medal match.
