Bidvest Wits will be looking to keep their faint title hopes alive when they meet relegation-threatened Amazulu in a PSL fixture on Friday 21 August.

Bidvest Wits vs Amazulu: PSL preview

Wits made a promising start to the resumed season but have since been stifled by a series of drawn matches including goalless draws in their last two outings.

Amazulu have played just once since the restart earning a point from their lacklustre 0-0 result against Baroka FC.

Usuthu also head into this match coachless having dismissed their Slovakian coach Jozef Vukusic on the eve of the clash.

Wits can leapfrog Orlando Pirates into third with a victory today and keep the pressure up on leaders Kaizer Chiefs and second-place Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Durbanites are hovering above the relegation zone with 24 points but a win could move them above Baroka FC into 13th place and four points clear of the bottom two.

Last time out the Cleverboys played to a goalless draw against Golden Arrows in a match that may have scuppered any hopes of the title. The club remain in contention to finish in the continental places even if that will mean earning a place for TTM in CAF competitions.

PSL Team News

Ushuthu’s caretaker coach Ayanda Dlamini insists preparations are on track despite a troubled week in their camp.

“The preparations are going well, the boys are ready. We have worked on what we have seen from Wits but also put a huge focus on our own game,” said Usuthu caretaker coach Ayanda Dlamini.

“It should be a confidence booster for the players knowing that the last time we played at FNB Stadium we got a very good result against Kaizer Chiefs. I am hoping that result will help us in the next match against Wits.

“It is very difficult at the bottom, but it is all in our hands. We need to win our games and that is the only thing that will help us. We just need to focus on our games and I think if we do that, that will help us.”

Wits star Zita Macheke says the team have done well to show discipline and play as well as they have so far, considering the club becomes defunct at the end of the season.

He feels Usuthu will bring a fresh challenge to his team.

“To be honest I am happy with our performances thus far, it shows the professionalism in the team. Besides everything that has happened with the team — I think if it was different people in the same environment they would behave in a different manner. Here you can see the good attitude, we are really trying to win games. We are really determined to win games,” said Macheke.

“It is a very tricky game, AmaZulu are playing for their lives so every point is important. They will be coming at us very hard, they will do everything in their power to survive, so it will be a very difficult game.”
