In comparison, ninth-placed Brentford have netted 54 goals in 36 games, while United’s neighbours Manchester City have banged in 92 goals in 35 matches.

This means Benni McCarthy has a tough job on his hands to improve United’s goalscoring next season. He needs to help the club’s attackers to rise up and help Rashford, who has scored 29 goals this season across all competitions.

United’s next best goalscorer is de facto captain Bruno Fernandes – who has contributed 11 goals and is the EPL’s leading player in terms of chances created this season.
