Banyana Banyana will face the United States in a friendly match tonight.

Banyana recently competed in this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup, which was held in the Oceanic territories of Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20. Banyana Banyana was assigned to Group G, which included Argentina, Italy, and Sweden.

Banyana’s sloppy World Cup start

Banyana played their first match on Sunday, July 23, and lost 2- 1 to Sweden. They let the opposition back into the game against Sweden after leading by a goal. In their second match, Banyana drew two goals apiece against Argentina on July 28.

Against Argentina, Banyana opened the scoring in the 30th minute through Linda Motlhalo before Thembi Kgatlana scored what looked like a ‘security’ goal in the 66th minute. South Africa allowed the opposition back into the game, as they did in their first encounter against Sweden, and the South Americans scored two goals in six minutes to deprive Banyana of their first World Cup triumph.
