If New Zealand beat the Springboks over the weekend, they will tie the record for most consecutive Test wins by a major rugby nation.

The record is currently shared by the All Blacks and South Africa with 17 wins each. New Zealand first achieved the feat between 1965 and 1969, while Nick Mallett’s Springboks equalled it in 1997/98.

New Zealand tied the record again between 2013 and 2014 and a win over South Africa over the weekend will put them within sights of making it 18 on the trot. Their next clash is against Australia at Eden Park in Auckland, a ground where New Zealand have not lost in 22 years.

The official record belongs to Cyprus, who won 24 consecutive Tests between 2008 and 2014.
