Zuma targets old ANC supporters in North West and Free State

Former President Jacob Zuma is also targeting disgruntled executives to set up MK structures in various provinces.

Former President Jacob Zuma has declared war on the ruling party, targeting his former ANC supporters in the North West and Free State to join his new party, Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK).

The response has been positive as disgruntled ANC members find a new political home in his party.Many disgruntled ANC members from the North West’s Kenneth Kaunda region said they were already working with MK, while others were still considering joining.

‘MADIBENG BREEDING GROUND FOR MK’

The Citizen reported that Zuma has assembled provincial command teams of ANC recruits. Their main task is recruiting new members for MK, specifically targeting ANC members with issues with the ruling party.

Zuma’s strategy is first to send grassroots members to establish structures and then later join the party as big names. “Madibeng has reportedly become the breeding ground for MK,” said a concerned ANC supporter.

ZUMA TO VISIT TRADITIONAL LEADERS IN NORTH WEST

Zuma is expected to visit North West, where he will mobilize traditional leaders during a rally at Taung tomorrow. The coordinators have been organizing for traditional leaders to attend the gathering, where they are expected to air their concerns to Zuma.

Last week, Zuma met a delegation of traditional leaders at his Nkandla homestead in KwaZulu-Natal to discuss the problems, and they pledged to support MK.

TRADITIONAL LEADERS UNDERMINED BY ANC STRUCTURES

Some traditional leaders are apparently looking to Zuma as the last hope after being sidelined by the ruling party.

Many chiefs have expressed dissatisfaction about how they were undermined by ANC structures, such as ANC branch executive committee members, councillors and leaders of the ANC-aligned South African National Civic Organisation.
