Zakes Bantwini has released his latest album, ‘The Star is Reborn’ but fans are concerned that it could be his last album.

It’s a bittersweet moment for fans of Zakes Bantwini, after the hitmaker released what he describes as his final album.

It’s been an incredible year for Afro-house Tech pioneer, Zakes Bantwini. The DJ, producer and performer won his first-ever Grammy Award for his single, Bayethe featuring Wouter Kellerman and Nomcebo Zikode. It’s been a whirlwind two years for the DJ who also released his hit single, Osama and the following album Ghetto King in 2021. Since then, he’s firmly established himself as one of South Africa’s leading artists.
However, the reign may be set to end soon as Zakes Bantwini has released his new album, The Star Is Reborn. While this would normally be exciting news, fans are concerned at suggestions that it could be his final-ever album.

ZAKES BANTWINI – THE STAR IS REBORN
Zakes Bantwini won’t let talk of this being his final release dampen his mood. In an Apple Music press release, he explained how excited he is for his album’s release. He said in a statement, “My album The Star Is Reborn is like a continuation of my last album, Ghetto King. I feel like sonically it’s more or less like an extension of that album because that sound I’m still exploring. On that album, Ghetto King, it was an introduction to the way Afrohouse and Afrotech – the music, the way now it’s sounding – and I felt like there was still a lot of instruments I still want to use in the sound, so the extension of that culminated in The Star Is Reborn.”
Fans are already loving the new album and it is trending on X across the country.

ZAKES PAYS HOMAGE TO TYLA’S RISE
While his album is trending, Zakes Bantwini has also taken a moment to pay homage to another artist whose star is on the rise. Speaking to Apple Music, he explained why Tyla’s current stardom is good news for South Africa as a whole.

He said, “When you look at artists now like Tyla… I feel like audiences need to see a performance and in South Africa we don’t get to see a performance a lot, because most people who are happening in South Africa have to stand behind the decks, because the music is carried by DJs in South Africa and I think that needs to change. We still need to find more artists performing dances, really doing something amazing and that’s why Tyla is so important. She’s saying ‘Hey’ to the world, ‘We are South Africans and we perform like this.’ That’s why I’m loving what is happening right now.”
