‘Grateful for the support’: Zahara’s family breaks silence

The family of Bulelwa ‘Zahara’ Mkutukana has released a statement confirming her death and expressing gratitude for messages of support.

The family of late songwriter and singer Bulelwa ‘Zahara’ Mkutukana says they are grateful for messages of support.

Mkutukana passed away at a hospital in Johannesburg on Monday, 11 December.

ZAHARA’S FAMILY GRATEFUL FOR MESSAGES OF SUPPORT

As previously reported by The South African, Zahara was admitted to hospital in November after she fell ill. According to reports the singer had been transfered to the intensive care unit (ICU).

Her family, as well as her manager, Oyama Dyobisa released statement on 27 November confirming that she was hospitalised and asked for privacy and prayers for her speedy recovery.

The Loliwe hitmaker’s uncle, Nkosiyami Mkutukana, said they are very saddened by the death of their beloved daughter and granddaughter Zahara.

“She was everything to us. Besides being a popular person to us, she was a family member, a humble person, and an ordinary child to us,” he said.

Mkutukana also expressed gratitude to the hospital staff, who cared for Zahara during her last days.

“We appreciate what they did. They did their best to avoid what had happened. We appreciate their efforts,” he added.

TRIBUTES POUR IN

Condolences have been pouring in for Zahara whose death sent shocking waves on social media.

President Cyril Ramaphosa said the country has been robbed of a great talent.

“She was talented, vibrant and a wonderful composer and to be robbed of that great talent at a young age is a real blow to our country. She wa is one of the great products the country has produced in the arts. I am really saddened by her passing,” he said.

Fellow celebrities and industry have also paid tribute to the late singer.
