“During such adverse weather conditions, the electricity infrastructure is likely to be damaged, posing a danger to members of the public.

“In Sandton on Tuesday, lightning struck a tree which fell on power lines following a heavy storm. While working on repairs, Eskom noted with concern passers-by entering a cordoned-off area, putting themselves at risk of being electrocuted as the lines could be live.

“We would like to urge members of the public to be cautious and avoid going near or touching damaged electrical equipment.”
