A 22-year-old man was hacked to death with a panga during a fight in Kirkwood in the early hours of Monday.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Majola Nkohli said a 28-year-old man had been arrested for the murder.
“It is alleged that just after midnight, police were summoned to a complaint of murder after a man was found in the street in Bersheba area in Kirkwood allegedly hacked to death with a panga.”
Nkohli said the deceased, Anathi Balindlela sustained injuries in the upper body.
“It is further alleged that the two men were embroiled in a violent confrontation about masculinity relating to medical and traditional circumcision. The panga was seized as an exhibit in the investigation.”
The arrested man faces a charge of murder and is expected to appear in the Kirkwood magistrate court on Wednesday, 25 August 2021.
On Saturday paramedics found a man who had been stabbed to death with a broken beer bottle next to the road in Ezakheni, Hazelmere, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Prem Balram said they received a call for medical assistance for a critically injured male stabbed with a broken beer bottle at around 02:10 on Saturday morning.
“Paramedics were dispatched to the scene and, on arrival, found the Verulam SAPS in attendance.
“Paramedics examined the victim, who was found next to the road. He had sustained a single stab wound to his neck. He showed no signs of life and was declared deceased.”
According to Balram, witnesses on the scene said the deceased and the suspect were consuming alcohol together when they began to argue.
