A 33- year-old woman from Extension Two in Ivory Park has been arrested for dealing in drugs on Thursday, 16 February.

POLICE VERIFY INFORMATION BEFORE ARRESTING THE WOMAN

Ivory Park SAPS Communications Officer Captain Ben Matimulane said the Ekurhuleni District’s Crime Intelligence followed up on the woman’s drug dealing operation and eventually verified the information.

“When it was ascertained that drugs were being sold they visited together with the Ivory Park SAPS crime prevention team members and retrieved the drugs, money that was strongly believed to have been from the proceeds of drugs,” said Captain Matimulane.

“The drugs found at the address were crystal meth, double star (commonly known as goof on the streets) and dagga.”

He added that the drugs had a combined value of just above Fifteen thousand rand (R15 000).

Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, the Station Commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, has congratulated the group responsible for following and eventually arresting the woman drug dealer.

“We need more positive information about crime as it is now crystal clear that the police alone cannot get rid of criminals by themselves. We need all the assistance from the community,” said Brigadier Ngcobo.

The arrest of female drug dealers seems to become a common occurrence. In August 2022, police in the Free State arrested an elderly woman (72) for drug dealing in Matlakeng, Zastron after receiving a tip-off from the public. The Anti-Gang Unit members found mandrax and tik worth R60 000 in the elderly woman’s house.
