Dr Peter Beale, a renowned paediatrician, and his anaesthetist, Dr Abdulhay Munshi, are being sought by police for culpable homicide charges related to the death of a ten-year-old, Zayyan Sayed.

Who is Dr Peter Beale?

Dr Peter Beale is well-renowned — but less liked — paediatrician from Johannesburg. The self-employed doctor has, for a number of years, operated out of the Netcare Park Lane Clinic, in Parktown.

This is before he and Dr Munshi were banned from working at Netcare facilities.

The curious death of Zayyaan Sayed

Sayed, a ten-year-old boy, died shortly after he underwent a laparoscopic surgical procedure gastroesophageal reflux disease. The procedure was overseen by Dr Beale and Munshi.

Deaths are not uncommon in surgical practices of this nature. However, what drew suspicion towards Dr Beale was his reputation for losing patients shortly after operations.

Sayed, as it turns out, is one of a number of children that died recently, after allegedly being operated on by Dr Beale for different diseases.

As reported by Citizen, the ten-year-old’s father, Mohammadh Sayed, laid criminal charges against the paediatrician and his assistant, in October, foricng the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) to place he and Munshi in suspension, pending the outcome of an investigation.

It seems that the probe into the doctor’s conducted has yielded evidence pointing to his direct involvement in either the death of a patient or their permanent impediments.

The warrants, it’s believed, have instructed Dr Beale and Munshi to report to the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court, where a charge of culpable homicide will be registered against them. Both doctors are expected to be released on bail pending the outcome of the investigaations.

Neither Beale nor Munshi have made any comments on the warrants..

This is a developing story.
