The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 1 warning for strong winds and waves in the Western Cape.

The wind is expected on Tuesday afternoon and the warning is valid until Wednesday, 19 July.

WINDS WAVES IN THE WESTERN CAPE

The weather service said very rough seas with wave heights of 4.0 to 5.0m and a period of 15 seconds are expected along the coast between Cape Columbine and Plettenberg Bay from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday.

“These conditions coupled with strong west to south-westerly winds of 45 – 55km/h are likely to bring some disruption,” SAWS said.

COLD FRONT TO HIT SA THIS WEEK

The weather service said a cut-off low is expected to develop over the southern interior of South Africa. This system will result in a sudden and widespread lowering of maximum temperatures, especially over the Cape provinces, as early as Wednesday, 19 July 2023.

“Apart from the impact of widespread, bitterly cold and showery conditions setting in over the Cape provinces, the South Africa Weather Service (SAWS) expects snowfalls to occur over the higher mountains of the Cape provinces tomorrow, spreading to include the Drakensberg Mountain peaks of Lesotho and KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday,” the weather service said.
