Water supply interruptions in these Cape Town areas this WEEK

This week, Cape Town residents should brace for temporary inconveniences as the city begins vital water supply network improvements.

This week, Cape Town residents are advised to prepare for some temporary inconveniences. As the city embarks on significant infrastructure projects aimed at improving the reliability of its water supply network.

The scheduled work, is set to commence on Tuesday and continue through Friday. It is vital for the long-term sustainability of the city’s water resources.

Several areas will be directly affected by these improvements:

Plumstead and Wynberg: From 9 October until 30 November, conditional assessments will be conducted on the water supply network in these regions. Residents may experience lower water pressure for up to 1.5 hours during the day as these assessments progress.

Die Wingerd, Greenway Rise, Stuart’s Hill, and Martinville: On the night of 18 October, zero-pressure testing will be carried out. In preparation for advanced pressure management technology installation.

Sir Lowry’s Pass area: The water supply will be temporarily interrupted from 9 am on Tuesday, lasting overnight until 4 am on Wednesday. This interruption is necessary for the installation of a water meter on the water supply main.

Extension 12, Kanonkop, Sherwood Park, and Beacon Hill: On 19 October, water supply to these areas will be shut off from 8 am to 6 pm. This allows the maintenance team to safely install a new section of the water supply pipeline, with water tankers providing water for domestic consumption where needed.

Hout Bay: Starting from Wednesday and continuing until Friday, 3 November, the water supply to various roads in this area will be intermittently shut off from 8 am to 4 pm on weekdays.

Bantry Bay and Fresnaye: On 18 October, the main water supply will be shut off from 9 am to 5 pm to enable maintenance work on the main water supply pipeline in De Wet Road.

Importance of the water supply disruptions in Cape Town

While these disruptions might pose some inconveniences. There are part of a necessary and proactive approach to upgrade Cape Town’s water infrastructure.

“The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused. This critical work is done on our water supply infrastructure to benefit customers,” said the City.

The long-term benefits in terms of a more resilient and reliable water supply system. Undoubtedly will outweigh the short-term inconveniences experienced by residents.
