The City of Tshwane plans crucial maintenance on the Hillcrest water supply network from the Muckleneuk Reservoir.

In a bid to enhance water supply infrastructure and reliability, the City of Tshwane has scheduled essential maintenance work on the water supply network in Hillcrest, sourced from the Muckleneuk Reservoir area.

This vital project is set to take place on Wednesday, 15 November 2023. Starting at 8:00 and concluding at 20:00, spanning 12 hours.

Areas to be affected by the water interruption

However, it’s crucial to note that this extensive undertaking will necessitate a temporary interruption in the water supply to several areas. Including Hatfield, Hillcrest, Brooklyn North of Murray Street, Menlo Park North of 5th Street, and Arcadia, east of Eastwood Street, encompassing Kirkness Street.

While the inconvenience is regrettable. These upgrades are essential to ensure a more robust and efficient water supply system for the city.

“The City apologises profusely for the inconvenience that may be caused by the water supply interruption,” said the City.

To minimise the impact of this interruption, the City of Tshwane has issued several water conservation guidelines.

Water conservation guidelines for Tshwane residents

Residents are encouraged to refrain from watering their gardens or using sprinkler systems between 6:00 and 18:00. Likewise, washing vehicles with hosepipes and filling swimming pools during this period should be avoided.

Moreover, residents are urged to continue using greywater for garden irrigation and toilet flushing. Installing water-saving devices wherever possible is also a prudent choice.

The city emphasises the importance of promptly reporting water leaks, burst pipes, and any incidents involving water wastage to maintain a sustainable and reliable water supply.
