Water SHUTDOWN in these Cape Town areas from Tuesday

Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will carry out planned work in specific areas, which will cause water shutdown.

The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has scheduled planned work in specific areas. Leading to temporary water supply disruptions.

The City sincerely regret any inconvenience caused. Emphasising the critical nature of this maintenance on water supply infrastructure for our customers’ benefit.

“The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused,” said the City.

Residents in affected zones are urged to be aware of the scheduled work and make necessary preparations.

Areas affected in Cape Town

Maintenance work involves pipe and valve installations, repairs, and replacements. In Parklands, the 400mm diameter water supply main will be shut off from 20:30 on Tuesday, 21 November 2023, overnight until 04:30 on Wednesday, 22 November 2023.

This allows for urgent repairs to a leaking connection and the replacement of a faulty valve. While alternate water supply will be rerouted to the area, it will be at low pressure.

Similarly, for Colorado Park and a portion of Woodlands (Mitchells Plain), the water supply will be shut off from 9:00 until 18:00 on Thursday, 23 November 2023. This facilitates a tie-in for a new development on the 200mm and 300mm diameter water supply mains to the area, and residents are encouraged to store enough water in advance.

Paarden Eiland, Lower Woodstock (Beach Road to Porter Road), Transnet, Waterfront, and Foreshore will experience water supply shut-off from 10:00 on Saturday, 25 November 2023, overnight until 23:00 on Sunday, 26 November 2023.

Urgent repairs to a severe leak on the 915mm diameter bulk water pipeline in Paarden Eiland are necessary, and alternate water supply will be rerouted to minimize the impact.

Water supply shutdown in these areas

Constantia will also face intermittent water supply shut-offs. Constantia Shut-off 1, affecting Alphen Drive, Hohenhort Avenue, Willowbrooke Lane, Brommaert Avenue, Midhurst Way, and the Valley Walk, will occur from 9:00 until 17:00 on Tuesday, 21 November 2023. This allows for repairs and replacements of valves and fire hydrants, with adjacent roads potentially affected.

Constantia Shut-off 2, impacting Sohland Avenue, Constantia Main Road, Pagasvlei Road, Jacaranda Way, and Bellair Drive, will occur intermittently from 9:00 until 17:00 on Thursday, 23 November 2023.

The maintenance team will be repairing and replacing valves and fire hydrants, with adjacent roads potentially affected. Residents are advised to store sufficient water in advance.

How residents are advised to prepare for planned water supply disruptions

Residents are encouraged to store enough water in clean, sealed containers ahead of time. Also to keep taps closed to prevent water loss or damage during the restoration of the water supply.
