In an effort to enhance water supply to areas experiencing prolonged outages in the north, eThekwini Municipality will conduct a planned shutdown of the Northern Aqueduct Pipeline on Tuesday, 27 February at 20:00.

This essential maintenance work aims to install new valves to improve efficiency and increase pressure within the pipeline.

Pipeline repair progress: Valve modifications required

“A larger part of the work has been completed. This includes repairing leaks and replacement of air valves in other sections of the pipeline. However, the outstanding valves require modification to fit into the network which also requires a shut down,” stated eThekwini Municipality.

The shutdown will temporarily interrupt water supply to affected areas during maintenance. The municipality anticipates completing the work by Wednesday, 28 February at 17:00.

During this period, water reservoirs will remain open, but supply will depend on consumption patterns.
