In a concerning turn of events, Joburg Water, a major water supplier in Johannesburg, has reported significant disruptions in its water supply, pointing fingers at Rand Water for the ongoing crisis.

Residents across several areas of Johannesburg awoke to the distressing reality of water scarcity. As the city’s reservoirs reached critically low levels.

The regions most severely affected by this water crisis include the southern, eastern, and central parts of Johannesburg. Joburg Water has openly acknowledged the challenge, attributing it to a “unstable to no supply from Rand Water.”

As a temporary solution, the South Hills tower has been supplying water to the affected areas through a tower bypass system. With the promise to resume regular pumping when the supply situation improves.

Rand Water’s silence

Interestingly, Rand Water, the supposed source of the problem, has not officially recognised any outages or supply issues on their end. This lack of acknowledgment has only added to the uncertainty surrounding the water crisis.

Low-lying areas in the city are expected to experience reduced water pressure, while higher-altitude regions may have little to no water at all. Several reservoirs, including Berea, Alexander Park, Doornkop, Parktown, Linksfield, Eagle’s Nest, Linden 1 tower, and the Commando System, are reported to be at critical or near-empty levels, exacerbating the dire situation.

Johannesburg water has introduced ‘throttling’

Unfortunately, no estimated time for the restoration of a regular water supply has been provided. Joburg Water has recently implemented water throttling measures and the closure of “critical meters” to conserve water resources. Attempting to prevent a complete collapse of the water system.

The uncertainty surrounding the situation calls for urgent attention and resolution. To ensure that the residents of Johannesburg receive a stable and consistent water supply.
