In our top story, Julius Malema is no stranger to controversy, and it seems that every public holiday we get in South Africa, the political firebrand starts another major row.

This time, he’s made a fairly sweeping statement at a public rally – he wants white South Africans to apologise to black SA citizens for ‘previous racial injustices’.

The idea of ‘reparations’ is nothing new for Malema or the Red Berets, but his comments come at a rather sensitive moment for the country.

The fate of land expropriation without compensation still hangs in the balance. Although the redistribution of land is still scheduled to go ahead, the EFF suspect that President Cyril Ramaphosa may not keep his promise.

TWO AIRCRAFT COLLIDE MID-AIR

In other news, Four people died when two aircraft collided in midair in Gauteng on Monday night.

The South African Civil Aviation Authority announced the tragic accident on Tuesday, and said its investigation unit is gathering evidence at the scene trying to piece together the events that unfolded.

Meanwhile, Human Rights Watch has released a scathing report into the treatment of Palestinian citizens in Israel – accusing the national government of committing ‘apartheid’.

The harrowing system of racial subjugation was implemented for more than 40 years in South Africa – but is it fair to say the same is happening in the Middle East?

In the report, Human Rights Watch says, “Inequities for Arabs in Israel reflect state policy that privileges Jewish Israelis at the expense of Palestinians in all areas under Israeli control. There is an overarching government policy to maintain domination by Jewish Israelis over Palestinians.”
