Six of the eight accused in the Thabo Bester escape case are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court for a bail application on Thursday morning, 11 May.

SIX OF BESTER’S CO-ACCUSED APPLY FOR BAIL
As previously reported, the six accused expected in the dock are Dr Nandipha Magudumana, Senohe Matsoara, Motenyane Masukela, Teboho Lipholo, Tieho Makhotsa and Natssja Jansen.
Magudumana is Bester’s lover and is believed to be the mastermind behind the escape. Lipholo was employed by Integritron and allegedly turned off the prison cameras before the escape.

The other accused were employed at the Mangaung Correctional Centre during Bester’s escape in May 2022 and played varying roles in the plot.
The accused face charges of fraud, violating a body, arson, harbouring and concealing an escaped offender and defeating the ends of justice.

Bester and Magudumana’s father, Zolile Cornelius Sekeleni, who was granted bail, will return to the same court on 16 May.
Bester was serving a life sentence plus 75 years for being a serial rapist and murderer when he escaped.
