A gang of robbers were caught on CCTV footage, unloading over R65 000 worth of lotion from a truck outside a store receiving depot in Umgeni Road in Durban last Thursday.

In the video published by News24, the group of men can be seen making light work of the contents of the vehicle and loading them in their own kombi.

More recent reports suggest that three of the alleged thieves have since been arrested, and are being investigated in connection with another similar incident, where the same car model was used to make off with the goods. Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said a case of robbery has been opened.

“One man was in possession of a firearm. The suspects loaded the goods into their vehicle and drove away. A case of robbery was opened at Durban Central.”

Following the arrest made last Friday, Simphiwe Motaung, Sipho Jila and the man in which the kombi in question is registered under, Patrick Mkhize made their first appearance in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday and were remanded in police custody until their next court appearance, scheduled for 3 September where they are expected to make a formal bail application.
