It’s hard being a golf fan sometimes, even in the most idyllic of settings like Augusta National. Just ask the patron who took a bad knock to the head when Fred Couples missed the green on the 11th hole during Sunday’s final round at the Masters.

There has been no shortage of drama at this year’s Masters. If it’s not Sergio Garcia shooting an octuple-bogey, then it’s Fred Couples giving one of the poor patrons a souvenir to remember wrapped with plenty of sting.

The 1992 Masters champion immediately shouted ‘fore’ as his second shot into the par-fourth 11th’s green sailed right. Seconds later, one can actually hear as the ball makes contact with one of the spectators followed by plenty of groans.

Watch: The moment of impact … ouch!

Couples checked on the patron before making par at the hole named ‘White Dogwood’.

Judging by the 58-year-old’s demeanour walking off the 11th green, it’s hard to tell who was more shaken by the incident.
