Parked vehicles were washed away, damages to properties were recorded and people had to be evacuated.

According to National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) spokesperson Craig Lambinon, emergency services attended a scene number of vehicles were threatened by Spring high tide at around 15h30.

He said no injuries were reported.
“We are appealing to the public to be cautious around the coastland and in inland rivers, lakes, and dams during storm conditions and strong winds on Saturday afternoon.”

This happened at Bikini Beach.

Lambinon said emergency services also responded to Mangolds Pool Resort on Saturday afternoon, where a number of caravans and structures were comprised by the Spring High tide.

“A number of people were safely evacuated, including a dog, a bird, two women and two children, as well as two men. They were evacuated from their caravans and taken to the gatehouse at three pools.
No injuries were reported.

The South African Weather Services (SAWS) issued a level 5 warning for damaging winds for these areas:
“It could result in dangerous driving conditions for high-sided vehicles, damage due to falling tree branches, and damage to buildings in formal and informal settlements.
“Keep doors and windows shut. Take care while driving.”

Meanwhile, a level 5 warning for damaging Waves are also in place for these areas:
“Disruption to small harbours/ports and difficulty in navigation. – Abnormal/Rogue waves are possible. Vessels at risk of taking on water and capsizing. Damage to/extensive modification of beaches, dunes and estuaries and risk to medium/large vessels of dragging anchor/breaking mooring lines are possible.”SAWS
It also warned of disruptions to beachfront activities along longer stretches of coastlines and/or in multiple municipalities.
“Small boats are advised to stay away from the open sea and seek the shelter of a harbour. In the harbour, moor the boats properly with ample fenders.”
