The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) said the City of Cape Town is effectively closed.
The Chair of the EFF in the Western Cape Unathi Ntame addressed the media from the verge of the N2 Highway near Nyanga.

He said the City and police effectively shut down the metro citing the quiet highways.
“The economy, as we can see it, looks like it is operating around 15%
“The State is the one who decided to do the favour for the EFF. Cape Town, the CBD, the whole metro is effectively closed, as you can see,”
said Ntame.

Meanwhile, in the City things are ticking along. It is relatively quiet but that could be the result of the inclement weather conditions more than the shutdown, and since the morning commute to work for many people has long since finished.
A few incidents occurred in the morning. Cape Town MayCo Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, said law enforcement in the metro dispersed a gathering of approximately 100 protesters early on Monday.

Ntame is expected to lead EFF members to Hanover Street in the City, where the March will commence from.
The CPUT parking lot adjacent to the street is occupied solely by the South African Police Service and the City’s law enforcement officials.
