A gang of four male suspects targeted two female victims early on Wednesday morning as they were waiting for a bus in Mayfair West. The suburb – which is on the outskirts of the Johannesburg CBD – took place just before 6:00, and the horrified commuters were left powerless to prevent their fate.
Johannesburg women targeted in daylight robbery
In the CCTV footage, which was shared online shortly after the incident occurred, we can see two women waiting on the street corner of St Gothard Avenue. Anticipating a bus coming round the corner, this unfortunate pair get the nastiest of surprises when a white Nissan Tida pulled up next to them.
Three of the four suspects exit the vehicle, and both women are grabbed. One of the victims ends up in a physical altercation before her bag is stolen. The thugs then pile back into the car and make a quick escape. Both of the unsuspecting morning travellers are visibly distraught after their ordeal.

A harrowing ordeal
We can confirm that the SAPS are investigating the circumstances behind this jarring crime. The video has since been shared hundreds of times, with more than 10 000 views to its name after being posted to Twitter just a few hours ago.
Police in Johannesburg are hopeful that witnesses in the area may come forward with information to aid their investigations. Despite committing the robbery in broad daylight, these criminals struck incredibly early. For anyone, having to start a day in this fashion must be utterly traumatic, and the general sentiment online is one of utter fury:
These are not men. They are cowards. Men face life head on and hustle in an honestly manner. Cowards just want to take from others and they target those who can’t fight back or protect them selves like these two women ?
