President Cyril Ramaphosa made a stop at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital Radio (Rx Radio) to hold discussions with the future of South Africa, as part of his contribution on Mandela Day.
Thursday, 18 July, not only marks former president Nelson Mandela’s 101st birthday but also sees the world celebrate International Nelson Mandela Day.
Scores of South Africans and other activists around the world have taken part in the Mandela Challenge, a call for people to commit 67 minutes of their day towards acts of kindness.
As part of his presidential drive, Ramaphosa opted to spend his time with the future of South Africa.
The children gathered in the Rx Radio studios to have a mature discussion with the president about the current affairs affecting South Africans.
The children surely came prepared because Ramaphosa had quite a lot to say about the direction the embattled country has taken with him steering the ship. He also revealed why Mandela became one of his inspirations.
These are some of the questions Ramaphosa responded to:
“Well, we have got a voting age limit, where we say young people should vote at a particular age when they’ve reached 18 years and above,” the president explained.
“uTata uNelson Mandela was not only a father to his children, but he was also a father to people like myself, and he was also a father to all the children and young people in our country. He is seen as a global father to children all over the world,” the president said.
“My relationship with him was of being able to learn a lot from him and also to follow in his footsteps. I learned integrity, courage, compassion and also to be willing to serve the people of our country like he did,” he added.
