Gauteng police crack the whip

No arrests have yet been made in relation with the incident, while in the same province, police nabbed 556 people between Wednesday and Thursday for a wide range of offences, including armed robbery and attempted murder.

This is after Gauteng’s police department embarked on “Operation Okae Molao” this week.

According to safety and security MEC Faith Mazibuko, Ekurhuleni and Tshwane recorded the most arrests, while Johannesburg was not far behind.

Other areas where arrests were made include Sedibeng and the West Rand.

“The purpose of us being here as part of ‘Operation Okae Molao’, is to make sure that there are no shebeens that are open, and there’s no illicit trade of cigarettes and no alcohol is being sold or being brewed,” Mazibuko said.
